Galatia 9 and Brucilla

What the critics are saying about Starstruck...

"And so you can become immersed in Starstruck in a different ways. You can sift for clues, move back and forth among pages, checking, verifying, assembling. Or you can simply give yourself over to it, and sink into each deeply imagined and beautifully rendered scene and character. Or you can do both, walking its pages first as a tourist and on second reading as a detective." - John Hilgart, The Comics Journal

"Brucilla filled the archetype of the rowdy, boozing, promiscuous hotshot pilot normally reserved for men, and preceded Battlestar Galactica’s Kara Thrace in doing so by about 20 years. And as an anarchist punk spaceship captain who was arrested in her youth for defacing public property with feminist revisions of nursery rhymes, Galatia-9 was a Riot Grrrl before the movement existed." - W. Andrew Shephard, The New Inquiry

"Simply one of the best comics series I’ve ever read, full of Elaine Lee’s Altmanesque storytelling style, challenging and never inclined to spoon-feed the reader; featuring clever dialogue and memorable characters. And on top of that, it’s illustrated by one of the modern masters, Michael W. Kaluta, who’s never been better." - Johnny Bacardi, Pop Dose

"The science fiction story is told in a nonlinear fashion, with a vast cast of characters including multiple female heroines. Starstruck was ahead of its time when it first came out, so reading the book today, it feels very contemporary." - Alex Dueben, Suicide Girls

"As great as anything Neal Gaiman, Alan Moore, or Will Eisner ever made and just as essential to the smart reader's collection ... Elaine Lee's story is as rich, epic, radical, complex, progressive, hilarious, and breathtaking as the best of our man Alan's work. Matched with the impossibly-layered beauty of Kaluta's art it is beyond peer." - Tym Stevens, Rock Sex

"I read this, I love it, and I soak up the art. Kaluta is masterful, with amazing detail, exciting scenes of explosions and chases through space, and Lee continues to pile plot point upon plot point. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned how very funny this comic is." - Greg Burgas, Comic Book Resources

"Lee’s complex story makes for a very rewarding comic-reading experience. The visuals are beautiful, thanks to Kaluta’s art, but Lee’s story provides more than simple eye candy. There are strong female characters, exotic settings and lots of alien landscapes on which to play. The Galactic Girl Guides stories, of which two-thirds are previously unpublished, features Kaluta’s pencils inked by accalimed fantasy artist Charles Vess. These are stories of the childhood adventures of Brucilla, a major player in the series." - Rudy Panucci, PopCult

I-Con 2011

Elaine Lee & Michael Wm. Kaluta will be guests at I-Con 2011, April 15-16, and will be appearing on panels, as well as signing copies of Starstruck Deluxe Edition!

On Saturday, April 16, at I-Con, The AudioComics Company will be presenting a live performance of a new Starstruck audio play!

Auditions for STARSTRUCK: Live
at I-Con 2011!

On April 16, 2011, the AudioComics Company, in assocation with Starstruck co-creator Elaine Lee, will present the world premiere of "Running Scared," an audio play set in the world of the comic book series Starstruck at I-CON 30 in Stony Brook, NY.

Written by Elaine Lee, directed by AudioComics co-founder William Dufris, this 25 minute audio play features the evil Verloona Ti. The silken seductress will be portrayed by the voice of AEon Flux, Denise Poirier, reprising her role from the critically acclaimed AudioComics release of Starstruck, adapted by Lee from the original off-off-Broadway play. The performance will be recorded before a live audience in the Javitz 100 theatre on the University of New York at Stony Brook campus, with two shows on the afternoon of April 16 (exact times TBA), and will be released later in the year as a free Mp3 download.

Also reprising their roles will be Brennan Lee Mulligan (Jimmy the Snout) and AC co-founder Lance Roger Axt (NORM); the ladies of the NYC-based comedy troupe Pink Axe will portray the Galactic Girl Guides, with additional roles to played by I-CON attendees as part of a "talent search" exclusive only to I-CON.

TALENT COMPETITION RULES...

If you are attending I-CON and want to be considered as an actor in this production, please do the following: submit a short MP3 audition piece showing us that you can do character voices. You can dramatize a favorite passage from a sci-fi novel or comic book/graphic novel; it doesn't have to be professionally produced! You can use the simple $10 microphone that comes with your computer. But you must be able to show us that you can do multiple voices, as you may take on as many as four or five roles.

Send your MP3 audition to: audiocomicsinfo@gmail.com via www.yousendit.com (or another online file sharing program that allows you to send large files and/or e-mail attachments) by or before April 8, 2011 with "Starstruck: Running Scared Audition" in the subject line. You also have to be available for a brief rehearsal the night before, and be available the morning of the performance. If you are chosen to be an actor in Running Scared, you will receive your script with lines highlighted (as well as a performance engagement contract) prior to I-CON.

ALSO NOTE:

Lee, Dufris, Axt, and Poirier will also be present for panel discussions and signings of the Starstruck hardcover collection from IDW, along with legendary Starstruck artist (and fellow guest), the one and only Michael Wm. Kaluta! We'll see you there!

In addition to the Starstruck crew, I-Con will welcome actors Thomas Jane (The Punisher, HBO's Hung), Julie Benz (No Ordinary Family), Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century) and Daniel Logan (Cartoon Network's Star Wars: The Clone Wars), comics and fantasy artists Tim Bradstreet (RAW Studios) and Michael Golden, Marvel Comics VP Tom Brevoort, and horror legend Joe Lansdale.
